New EU Regulations: the CBAM Changes the Rules for Importing Steel and Metals
02 December 2025
The new CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) introduced by the European Union directly affects the import of carbon-intensive materials such as steel, aluminum, and iron.
Starting January 1st, 2026, payments for imported emissions will come into effect.
This mechanism concerns all operators in the sector—importers as well as customers—and introduces new requirements for transparency and traceability throughout the supply chain. It will be necessary to document the carbon emissions indirectly generated by purchased/imported products, with inevitable effects on prices, delivery times, and customs management.
TECNICA TRE’s Commitment
To ensure continuity and operational compliance, TECNICA TRE has already launched an adaptation plan that includes:
- Analysis of all products subject to CBAM
- Collection and archiving of documentation for each item
- Active collaboration with suppliers for CO2 emissions reporting
- Updating of logistics processes to ensure CBAM-compliant shipments
- Careful and accurate price adjustments based on the CBAM impact
TECNICA TRE is also one of the first—and still few—Italian companies to be officially recognized as an authorized CBAM importer by the MASE (Ministry of the Environment an Energy Security)
